In this great scene from the Mission, the priest makes a connection with the native people by playing his oboe. Why do you think the one hunter breaks the oboe?

The lesson here kids… when you’re in a tight spot, reach for your oboe. Mr. H

Gabriel’s oboe, also known as Nella Fantasia, is a great piece that I would like to learn. In the video, the character seemed very nervous because of the new environment, therefore his playing was sometimes rushed. He could have also used better changes in dynamics, especially could have performed loud on 1:30. Overall, I enjoyed watching the film and listening to this inspirational music. i think the hunter broke the oboe because it is not in their culture to be affectionate or emotional, so he breaks the oboe to disrupt the other hunters from being to “into” the music.
